Neu Capital Africa Expands its Team

Neu Capital Africa, the African capital-matching platform, is delighted to welcome Ben Potter, head of energy and resources, and Barry Hawke, head of equities and valuations, to the growing Neu Capital team.

Neu Capital helps quality corporate finance advisors raise capital in Australia, New Zealand and Africa, and has offices in London, Johannesburg, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.

Ben Potter will be looking after the energy and resources capital raising business. Ben joins from EY’s London energy strategy practice, where he worked for 5 years on some of the largest mergers and mega-projects in the oil and gas space. These deals included Equinor IDWS (Norway), Total Lake Albert (Uganda), ExxonMobil Liza 1 (Guyana), several pre-salt deals in Brazil, and managing a post-merger integration of an oil fields services firm in Houston. Prior to this he led Genesis Analytics’ energy and mining consulting practice. Ben lived in Mozambique for 4 years, where he was an economic advisor to the Mozambican government as an ODI Fellow and worked extensively in the natural gas space. He also spent a year working on an oil and gas joint venture in Angola. His experience has spanned the entire energy value chain, including oil, LNG, shale, gas-to-power, GTL, pipelines, subsea equipment manufacturing, oilfield services, petchems, generation, transmission, energy retail and renewables. In the renewables space he has worked in solar PV C&I capital raises and project development, as well as utility scale hydro development. Barry Hawke


Barry Hawke
 will be looking after capital raises, especially identifying and managing alternative capital solutions to mid-market private and listed companies. He brings over 24 years of experience in both corporate strategy consulting and institutional markets. He has deep experience in financial analysis, return on capital, economic profit and the link to company valuation. He’s advised companies and fund managers on the application of these methodologies in driving strategy and capital allocation. His career spans 18 years in the capital markets where he was most recently Head: Nedbank CIB Markets Research & Equity Capital Markets, and Institutional Equities, JHB. Prior to that he was at Credit Suisse UK: MD of HOLT EMEA. His corporate strategy consulting includes 6yrs including being Co-founder: Fractal Value Advisors, corporate strategy consultancy, CT. Barry holds a BSc Agric (UNP), MBA (UCT), Chartered Financial Analyst.s a MSc (LSE), a MComm (UCT) and BSc (Wits) and speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese.
